Knowing All About Cats With These Great Tips

When it comes to choosing the perfect pet, cats are the go-to choice for millions of households. Cats can be terrifically fun, and they can also take care of vermin in your home. With a cat in your home, you aren't likely to worry about fending off these nuisances.

Check out your local shelter if you are thinking about getting a cat. Shelters are overflowing with wonderful cats, and the adoption fee usually covers essential vet care. Adopting your cat at a shelter allows you to save a cat's life while also helping mitigate overpopulation.

Take your cat in for regular vet exams. Your cat should receive shots regularly to prevent health issues. Make sure you keep the same veterinarian for your pet throughout its life. Your veterinarian needs to know about your pet's history, and your cat will feel more comfortable if you always take her to the same vet.

Cats love to get into tight, small spaces. If they have a collar on, this might prove to be a safety risk if they happen to get stuck. A breakaway collar will let go if it is pulled on too tightly. This will allow your cat to live another day if it gets tangled up.

If you'd like to make an elderly cat's bed more comfy, stick a heated tile beneath its bed. Use a 12" terra cotta tile and heat it by putting it in a 200ºF oven for 20 minutes. Wrap it in an old towel and put it under your cat's bed or blanket. Replace it every three hours or so.

Be sure you have a vet that your cat sees regularly so it stays healthy. They need a check-up and possibly vaccinations. If there are more pressing health problems, take your cat to the vet right away.

Dog products shouldn't be used on cats. Cats will have a reaction that's negative towards a product made for dogs. This will especially be true if it's a product for fleas. Flea treatments made for a dog can be fatal to a cat. Your cat needs to be away from the dog after your dog has received a flea treatment.

Put bitter apple on all electrical cords. If your cat still insists on chewing your cords, try to cover as many of them as possible. You can hide away any cords inside the rolls that come inside paper towels. If you have rarely used electronics, put them up when you aren't using them.

It can be hard to make your cat stay off the counter. Cats enjoy high places so they can see what is happening around them. Therefore, you should create high areas for resting. If you don't want your cats to jump on your counters, you can put a cat condo in or around the kitchen.

Cats aren't the same as owning a dog or other pet; however, the rewards to be had can be greater for you. Cats can provide your home with a peaceful serenity, which dogs rarely do. With these benefits, you can have a truly great companion.
